Rayat College of Law, Rayat-Bahra Ropar Campus, organized National Seminar on 29th March, 2017 on the theme "Crime, Society and the State", in collaboration with ICSSR- North Western Regional Centre. With the objective to disperse information, share ideas, insights and bring to the table the impact of crime in the society and the State.
More than 50 academicians, research scholars, practitioners and students from Rajasthan, Himachal, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and other states presented their research work on various issues related to the theme. The Chief Guest, Hon'ble Justice H.S. Bhalla, Chairperson, Haryana Human Rights Commission and Guest of Honour, Dr. Ajay Ranga, Fellow, Panjab University, Chandigarh graced the inaugural session. The function started with saraswati vandana and lighting of lamp by the worthy Chief Guest and Guest of Honour followed by felicitation of the guest by S. Gurvinder Singh Bahra, worthy Chairman. In his welcome address, Dr. Suresh Seth lauded the Chief Guest for his contribution to the society and expressed gratitude towards the participating teams. The ceremony continued with Chief Guest sharing his vision and wisdom. His opening words were enough to send the audience into gales of laughter, when he said, "Judges are fond of listening but such inter-active sessions open ups one's mindset and hence it is important to have such seminars". He used personal anecdotes to explain the ongoing topic and also talked about the inter-relation of society and the State and how crime is affecting it. While sharing his experience he underlined the measures to control crime against women. He further applauded the phenomenal growth and social responsibility initiatives of Rayat–Bahra Group. While keynote address in the valedictory function was by Prof. Devinder Singh, Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh, who shared his valuable thoughts on the issue. This inter-active session sparked thoughts and brought to light various aspects of the Crimes and the measures to curb the same. Speakers brought up various aspects of crimes and the measures to curb them. The ceremony concluded by vote of thanks given by Principal, Dr. Monika Sharma who thanked our guests for their inspiring and motivational words and making this event a grand success.
